Saint Michael fights back
As these before and after images show, this beautiful twentieth century window had been the
victim of intentional damage. The conservation strategy employed was one of minimal
structural and artistic intervention. Where possible pieces were repaired by bonding or by
piecing in replications of missing fragments with repair leads. Nevertheless the damage was
so extensive that it was considered necessary to replace a number of pieces with replicas to
retain the legibility of the design.

Endangered Species
The central bird roundel of this attractive Victorian front door had accidentally sustained
extensive multiple fractures. It was decided to remove the shattered roundel, create a hand
painted “clone” and reincorporate the new piece with minimal releading.
